USC - DOST Coral Nursery project and rehab site turnover held

Last April 30, the DOST-funded project entitled “Project 7: Pilot Technology Demonstration on Coral Reef Restoration in Padre Bugros, Southern Leyte” was officially turned over to the local recipients and respective partners.

Congressman Roger Mercado (Southern Leyte, Lone District) and Congressman Neil Benedict Montejo (Partylist PL-AN Waray) attended the event, together with Padre Burgos Mayor Ricardo Borces, and barangay officials.

Project 7 is part of a national coral research program entitled “The Filipinnovation on Coral Reef Restoration” headed by USC’s Dr. Filipina Sotto.  The University drafted a sustainability program to be implemented by the local government unit, the Southern Leyte State University and a local dive resort to ensure the continuity of coral restoration in Sogod Bay, Southern Leyte.
